1&2 Stephen Street, London

1 & 2 Stephen Street, a building for which Prolojik supplied the lighting control system, has won the British Council for Offices (BCO) 2015 national award for Refurbished/Recycled Workplace.

We completed the project during summer 2015, having been specified in 2012 due to our use of open protocol networks and strong capabilities in engineering design. We worked alongside designers Arup during the design phase and then manufactured and supplied the lighting control system over the construction phase.

The product supplied utilised LonWorks and DALI open protocol networks to provide an intelligent lighting control system designed to create easily tailored working environments throughout the building, as well as minimise energy usage. Designing the system for the entire 260,000 sq ft space was challenging because there were limitations in configuring the networks and locating the necessary equipment within the existing building floor plates. The entire project took a phased approach in converting former studios into commercial office space, so we also had to factor this complex scheduling into the way we designed and delivered the solution over a period of time.

The scheme, having won the London and South East Award, beat off stiff competition from the other regional winners to be crowned national winner in its category at a prestigious ceremony in October 2015. Judges comments included that the building “provides an example as to what can be achieved with creative thought, vision and attention to detail. It also demonstrates the importance of having an understanding of where to invest – and where not to.”
