Prolojik has supplied its open protocol system to a major new commercial building in Aberdeen.

Prolojik has completed the shell, core and client fit-out of CityPark 1, a 216,000 sq ft sustainable commercial new build presented by HFD Group. Specified by M&E consultants at TÜV SÜD Real Estate and installed by Mercury Engineering, Prolojik’s fully Dali addressable modular lighting system was commissioned to provide four storeys of completely flexible, Grade A and BREEAM compliant multi-tenant office space.

Prolojik set out to tackle the challenges presented by the scale of the client fit-out, most specifically meeting the demanding BREEAM standard within the open plan office spaces. Prolojik’s Dali multi-sensors provide presence and absence detection, with numerous small logical switch zones controlled by manual switches for on/off/dimming control. Window-adjacent lights, such as those in the on-site restaurant, feature daylight dimming to reduce energy consumption, while meeting spaces are equipped with presence/absence detection and scene control according to size.

Managed by Prolojik’s Perspective graphical head end software, the open protocol lighting system integrates emergency testing and monitoring, with no need for a secondary system. The building manager is able to initiate statutory testing at a time to suit the occupiers and undertake proactive system monitoring and maintenance; a more cost-effective approach than waiting for faults to present themselves.

“The square footage of CityPark 1 presented a challenge in terms of designing a lighting system that would provide a bespoke, multi-tenant facility as well as achieving Grade A energy efficiency and a ‘very good’ BREEAM rating,” commented Mark Vincent, Prolojik Commercial Director. “Our modular system delivers the ultimate flexibility that enables each storey to house a separate tenant with unique requirements, but also facilitates seamless communication across all spaces to meet the needs of the current tenant which occupies all floors.

Mark continued: “Whilst the core areas of CityPark 1 are likely to remain static in years to come, our open protocol system is future proof by nature, allowing any in-house engineer or third party contractor to access, maintain and adapt the system in the future, as well as enabling logical zones across the office space to be redesigned with ease. Our fully scalable networked Dali solution is also capable of being integrated with the building management system if required in future.”

Developed by HFD Group, Scotland’s leading commercial property company, the Grade A office space at CityPark 1 was pre-let to Wood Group to house 1,650 employees. The building was designed by Michael Laird Architects and provides three storeys of A-rated energy efficient offices which also boast a BREEAM rating of Very Good, placing CityPark 1 in the top 25% of the UK’s new non-domestic buildings for sustainability.
