In a globalised world where products regularly traverse entire continents before reaching the customer’s hands, the choice to source and manufacture locally is a decision laden with significance. As a company committed to quality and sustainability, Prolojik proudly declare our allegiance to British manufacturers.
Since our accreditation in 2019, Prolojik has been proud to be the first lighting controls company in the UK to be a ‘Made in Britain’ approved manufacturer. The ‘Made in Britain’ membership brings together the British manufacturing community, united with the use of the registered collective marks. The marks are protected and can only be used by members of the Made in Britain community.
We are proud that our main manufacturers are not only local, but within two hours of our headquarters in High Wycombe. The phrase “a stone’s throw away” is often an exaggeration, but in our case, we can see into the manufacturing floor of one of our manufacturers from our staff kitchen area! We could actually throw a stone over to them! Not that we would, because we’re nice people!
Let’s delve into the reasons behind our steadfast choice to keep our production close to home.
Reducing Carbon Footprint
Global supply chains often involve extensive transportation, leading to increased carbon emissions and environmental degradation. Opting for British manufacturers allows us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. Shorter transportation distances mean lower emissions, contributing to our commitment to environmental sustainability. By prioritising local production, we play a role in preserving the planet for future generations, aligning our business practices with eco-conscious values.
Delivering sustainable solutions is top of the agenda for us at Prolojik, right up there with the quality of the systems we design and implement. From a life-long philosophy of local manufacturing to a product and package approach driven by recycling and upgrade, our aspirations are encompassed on Mission M – the Prolojik blueprint for sustainability. Mission M keeps us accountable for our actions and ensures that we keep the environment at the forefront of our minds through the delivery of our projects.
We also evolved our distribution network into what we call the Hermit Crab Initiative, which is a turnkey approach to upgrade encompassing recovery, renewal, recycle, return and recommission of client equipment. Implementation of an award-winning lighting system in a smart building is no different to the Hermit Crab – you should never waste a perfectly good shell!
British manufacturers are increasingly adopting sustainable practices, incorporating eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient processes into their production. This commitment to sustainability aligns with the growing global consciousness about the need to preserve the environment. By choosing products made in Britain, Prolojik customers are not just investing in quality but also contributing to a more sustainable future.
Quality Assurance: The British Standard
When it comes to craftsmanship, few nations can rival the precision and attention to detail that British manufacturers bring to the table. The “Made in Britain” stamp is synonymous with quality, reflecting the rigorous standards upheld by our skilled technicians.
By keeping our production within the UK, we ensure that every product meets and often exceeds the stringent benchmarks set by British industry regulators. This commitment to quality assurance not only safeguards the Prolojik brand reputation but also guarantees customer satisfaction.
Supporting Local Economies
Choosing British manufacturers is not just about the products; it’s about fostering economic growth within our communities. By sourcing locally, we contribute to the vitality of British industries, providing jobs and supporting the livelihoods of countless individuals. This not only fortifies our economy but also helps build stronger, more resilient communities. We believe that a thriving local economy is the bedrock of a prosperous nation.

Working with local manufacturers allows us to be actively involved in the production process, ensuring that the Prolojik vision and standards are upheld. This close relationship enables quick adjustments, customisation, and the ability to promptly address any concerns that may arise. The agility of local manufacturers ensures that we can adapt to market demands swiftly, staying ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving business landscape.
Preserving Traditional Skills
Britain boasts a rich heritage of craftsmanship and artisanal skills that have been passed down through generations. By choosing British manufacturers, we actively contribute to the preservation of these traditional skills. Our commitment goes beyond the products we sell; it is a dedication to sustaining the cultural legacy of our nation. Each piece manufactured locally carries with it the spirit of time-honoured techniques, as well as
This commitment to heritage not only ensures the survival of unique crafts but also adds cultural value to the products themselves. As the global market trends towards mass production, supporting British manufacturers becomes a way of safeguarding the diversity of skills and techniques that make each product a work of art.
More than a Business Strategy
In conclusion, the decision to use British manufacturers is not just a business strategy; it’s a holistic commitment to quality, community, and sustainability. By keeping our production close to home, we not only deliver exceptional products to our customers but also contribute to the larger tapestry of our nation’s economic and cultural fabric.
Prolojik Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Asela Rodrigo, said, “our commitment to using only ‘Made in Britain’ products stems from a strategic vision that transcends mere sourcing preferences.
